Welcome to the WJ Hockey Club- the official hockey program of Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland. As proud members of the Maryland Student Hockey League (MSHL), the Wild Cats bring together talented and dedicated student-athletes who embody the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic excellence. Representing their school and community with pride, our players compete with heart, grow through discipline, and lead both on and off the ice.

Founded as an extension of Walter Johnson High School's athletic department, the Ice Cats proudly represented our school in the Maryland Student Hockey League (MSHL).

Varsity
Our Varsity Team competes at the highest level of high school hockey in Maryland, featuring experienced players dedicated to excellence and teamwork.
JV
Developing tomorrow's Varsity players, our JV Team focuses on skill building, game understanding, and preparing players for advancement.

Player Resources
Equipment Requirements
Full hockey equipment including helmets with cages, mouth guards, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants and shells, shin guards, skates, necks guards, and sticks. Team jerseys, shells, and socks can be purchased at the beginning of each season.
Academic Standards
Players must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA with no failing grades. Academic progress is monitored throughout the season.
Practice Schedule
The WJ Hockey Club practices every Monday and Wednesday at the Cabin John Ice Rink from 5:45 AM- 6:45 AM from October- February.

Code of Conduct
Participation on the Walter Johnson (WJ) High School Hockey Club is a privilege. Athletes and parents/guardians must uphold the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic excellence. The club's agreement defines behavioral expectations and participation standards for all athletes and their families.
Tryout Information
At Walter Johnson Hockey Club, our goal is to give every player the chance to grow, compete, and enjoy the game.
All players who participate in tryouts will be placed on our Junior Varsity (JV) team. The JV team serves as a developmental program designed to foster skill improvement and provide meaningful game experience in a competitive environment.
For players demonstrating exceptional skill, game sense, and commitment, our coaching staff will select a Varsity roster during the first week of the season. Varsity is a high-level team made up of some of the top hockey talent in Montgomery County and the state of Maryland.
Tryouts take place during our morning practices in the opening week, and double-rostering between JV and Varsity is possible based on a player's development and team needs.
